DISCLAIMER: I did receive a free copy of this book in exchange for a review.Blackbeard's Revenge starts up about a year after the first book left off. And things weren't looking especially bright for Edward Thatch and his merry crew of buccaneers. And things don't seem to have gotten much better over the course of the time that occurs between books.Blackbeard, the man who rides on the majestic ship FREEDOM, as much more than merely a metaphor for his own personal quest, seems to have given up on the idea of being free.Good thing pirates don't care about things like that!Okay, let's get down to the gritty. This book is a ton more polished than the first one, and is incredibly fast-paced, considering how long of a book it is. And although there's a ton that happens within the covers of this title, it never seems to get bogged down with too much at any given moment. In fact, Edward seems to be rather singularly focused at most times in the novel, giving him a rather Ahab-esque vibe, which, to be fair, is probably the point.We see Edward's progress towards being the captain he's supposed to be, but also, more than anything else, see his failures, many of which come back to bite him in the whatsits, some more I'm guessing will do so in future tales of his adventures.But in the end, this book is really all about family, and how sometimes, you just have to fight for your family, even if the battle seems completely doomed to failure.This is a spectacular book, one that I think you absolutely should read if you have any interest in pirate fiction. Or action. Or adventure. Or...really, just read it, unless all you like are Harlequins (in which case, what are you doing reading this review even?)Seriously. It's a load of fun.
What imagination! I don't think even my most beloved wizard school books can compete with all the drama forced into these pages! Anyone with a love of pirates, mild history and tons of action needs to read these books. I guarantee anyone else will enjoy reading them if they aren't opposed to the fighting, blood and death. Fearsome characters, fearsome situations and fearsome good writing.
I read Book One first, and thoroughly enjoyed it, and this one, Book Two in the series. Can't wait to get my hands on the third! Mr. McLean writes well, and interestingly, and has a knack for making his words exciting! Although this is nowhere near Edward Teach's true story, it's fun and moves along at a fast pace. Very different from the true story, but it kept my interest until the end. Good stuff!
Once again Jeremy McLean has written another great book! I really enjoyed book 1 and was surprised that book two was as good and surpassed the first book. In this book, the author takes the time to really flesh out his characters, making them seem even more alive then the previous book. Some characters change for the better, and some for the worst. You get a first hand of view of what these characters are thinking and are given a idea of why they do what they do.The action that was so well done in book one also returns in book two. The crew go to some interesting places in this book and there are plenty of action and adventure scenes to satisfy everyone.All in all, this book was excellently written, and I really enjoyed reading it. If you are interested in pirates, history or just reading about diverse characters and their relationships with others check this series out. You will not be disappointed. I look forward to reading future stories from this talented author.
This book was very well written and the storyline reminded me of a book I read as a child. That book was called Treasure Island. It also had Blackbeard in it. I feel that I need to read it again. I really enjoy the adventure of finding all the keys. The author has a great imagination and should do well in the future.
Terrific sequel to Blackbeard's Freedom that continues the story with more adventures, battles, mysteries and conquests. The well developed characters and their backgrounds are further enhanced through the historical research the author has woven into his adventure. Once started it was hard to put down. Highly Recommended! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Have been eagerly anticipating this book since finishing the first book in the series. This book did not disappoint! Started reading, and didn't look up until almost the first 100 pages had gone by. This continues where the last book left off. Full of action and adventure, and several turns that had me turning back the page to reread previous ones. Wonderful and exciting book and am very happy to include it in our collection!
The tell of the ultimate pirate. The story and characters jump off the pages and Into your heart. The storyline is simply awesome to the point that you yourself want to be a member of the crew. A simply must read.
